Welcome to one of the largest and most exciting industries in which to work, with a huge range of job opportunities in travel, leisure, tourism services and hospitality. Tourism is a great industry for developing skills in customer service, communication, craft, teamwork and other areas.

  • The tourism industry is set to become the largest industry in the world by 2010.
  • In Britain, tourism accounts for £74 billion a year and employs over 2 million people. One in five of all new jobs created are in this industry.
  • Locally (Bath, Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and surrounding areas) the tourism industry employs well over 43,000 people and generates £1.4 billion each year.
  • One of the many reasons people are attracted to working in this industry is its variety and flexibility. The wide range of jobs, work patterns and hours of work may suit your individuals requirements perfectly. Jobs in tourism also offer a variety to your work that you may not enjoy within another employment area.
  • Training can often be provided for many jobs in tourism while you are working and often a positive attitude and enthusiasm can prove as valuable an asset as a qualification.
  • If you are considering furthering your education, there is a wide range of courses, qualifications and study methods to suit you. These range from National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) to degrees, full-time study to distance learning, or you can study for qualifications while at work.
